DGE Katherine Hahn | District 6360
Back in 2003 Katherine Hahn was so impressed with the people she saw volunteering to help her children in sports and school that she felt it was time to give back. So Katherine decided that Rotary Club of Stratford was an opportunity to use her unique skills to contribute to the Stratford, Ontario and global community. Since then, she has also learned how Rotary can positively impact a family and open up doors around the world.
Hosting several Youth Exchange students in her home has introduced Katherine and her children to new cultures and allowed them to assist each youth through a challenging transition. As a result of these rewarding experiences, her son Jared James chose to travel on Rotary International Youth Exchange to Peru. Katherine and her other son Evan James then participated in a Rotary Polio Immunization Campaign in India. She says, "Being able to prevent the spread of a life threatening illness was one of the most important and moving things I have ever done. The campaign included people from all over the world and we all worked together for a common goal, making the world a better place." She believes that for new members Rotary presents endless opportunities to help others, "It's a very gratifying feeling to be able to make a change in your community. And to know that you can expand that sense of community to a global one is life changing." |
